  • Toscano is now Disneyland
I had not been to Tuscany in 30 years. It’s still beautiful, the food is just as good, but tourism is causing a pernicious form of gentrification. There is only a fixed amount of Toscano but there seems to be more tourists, I suspect, because of the amplification of beautiful things by the maelstrom of… Read More »Toscano is now Disneyland
  • Vietnam ’24
We were part of a group on a bike tour of central Vietnam in March 2024. A video made during our tour by the host, Mr Biker Saigon Some pics and a few videos collected into an iCloud photo album
  • We were interviewed by Nathan…
Nathan’s “I’m Moving To Italy” podcast has been a encouraging lifeline in our process of searching for, buying, and learning how to live in Italy. In July of this year, Natan interviewed us for his podcast. We tell our story from the beginning up to the present and hope it helps others as much as… Read More »We were interviewed by Nathan…

Recent Tasting Notes on CellarTracker

  • Tasted by rogerr. Agree with recent notes. Rich, nice texture, med + finish. Good effort for a rhonish style white. (92 pts.) – Tasted 3/10/2025.
  • Tasted by rogerr. Solid Saxum. Drinking well but not memorable. (91 pts.) – Tasted 3/4/2025.
  • Tasted by rogerr. Like EdKz's note. This wine is mature and faring well for a low-end barolo that I don't think was intended for long aging. It's holding up well but tertiary flavors are now predominant. On day 2, the wine was still holding up and perhaps a bit mellower. (91 pts.) – Tasted 3/2/2025.
  • Tasted by rogerr. AGAIN, this bottle had a bit of spritz so wondering if some refermentation occurred. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue? UPDATE: Contacted Saxum and they will replace the 2 flawed bottles. EXCELLENT customer service! Bravo! (90 pts.) – Tasted 2/25/2025.
  • Tasted by rogerr. Drinking better than my last bottle 11 years ago. Beautifully integrated with silky tannins. Not over the hill but singing right now. (95 pts.) – Tasted 2/18/2025.
  • Tasted by rogerr. No decant and drank second half after two days. This Nebbiolo from an obscure northern Piedmont DOC is interesting. Ruby red in the glass with a fairly austere nose. On the palate it is acid forward with more fruit than one would expect at this age. It needs to food to balance […]
  • Tasted by rogerr. No decant and drank equal half over two days. The wine was explosive after pulling the cork and to my senses was the best upon opening the bottle. It evolved over an hour of slow sipping and was thoroughly enjoyable. Over hour 2 -3, the wine exhibited a bit more tannin structure. […]
  • Tasted by rogerr. Wine is way past it's top and drinking very poorly. Might be my bottle but I doubt it. – Tasted 2/13/2025.
  • Tasted by rogerr. This bottle had a bit of spritz so wondering if some refermentation occurred. Lighter in style than pre-2010 Saxums. Bright, tart, texture is hindered by the spritz. Will try another bottle to see if this one was flawed. (91 pts.) – Tasted 2/11/2025.
